Unser
Gemeindemitglied, Herr Gunter Gall, ist kürzlich in Brasilien zu einem
Besuch der Gemeinde in der Nähe von Sao Paulo gewesen, die wir seit zwei
Jahren in stärkerem Masse finanziell unterstützen. Schon längere Zeit
bestanden Kontakte zwischen dem früheren Pastor Milton Schwantes und
unserem Pastor Eberhard Schwantes, die sich in Deutschland trafen und
seitdem den Kontakt pflegten. Vielleicht erinnern Sie sich noch, daß
Pastor Milton Schwantes an einem Gehirntumor erkrankte und seitdem
keinen Gemeindedienst mehr leisten konnte. Er erholt sich langsam von
den Auswirkungen seiner Operation, doch wie Herr Gall mitteilte, ist er
praktisch blind und von den Medikamenten, die er nehmen muß, gezeichnet.
Im vergangenen Jahr hatte das Ehepaar Wienecke auf einer Reise durch
Brasilien die Möglichkeit, ihn und die Gemeinde zu treffen. In diesem
Jahr war der Aufenthalt von Herrn Gall ausschließlich auf die Gemeinde
konzentriert. Herr Gall hat sich persönlich davon überzeugen können, daß
hier unter unvorstellbar schwierigen Bedingungen Großartiges, auch mit
unserer Hilfe, geleistet wird. Ein Problem, mit dem diese Gemeinde
konfrontiert ist, sind Kinder, die ohne Väter aufwachsen. Die Mütter
haben mehr Kinder, als sie versorgen können. Nun ist es gelungen, ein
Programm aufzubauen, mit dessen Hilfe die Mütter selbst Arbeitsstellen
antreten können und ihre Kinder in der Obhut der Kirchengemeinde wissen.
Teilweise sind die Mütter 14 Stunden von Zuhause entfernt. Interessant
fand ich an Herrn Galls Bericht, daß uns dieses Problem über die
Entfernung verbindet. Auch Pastor Reichel sucht Unterstützung für dieses
Kindergartenprojekt, was ungefähr monatlich $ 40 Can. kostet. Die
Gemeinde in Guarolhos versucht ein angrenzendes Grundstück zu erwerben
und einen Kindergarten für Kinder von Müttern zu errichten, die gar
nichts monatlich finanziell beisteuern können. - Herr Gall nahm auch an
einem Taufgottesdienst in der Gegend von Sao Jose dos Campos teil, in
dessen Kirche Pastor Roepke seinen Dienst ab Dezember angetreten hat.
Pastor Roepke wird mit Pastor Reichel eng zusammenarbeiten. - Herr Gall
hat der Gemeinde von Pastor Reichel unsere Gabe persönlich übergeben,
welches mit großem Dank und den besten Wünschen an uns aufgenommen
wurde. Herr Gall faßt seinen Besuch so zusammen: „Meine Reise nach
Brasilien hat mich sehr demütig gemacht, und ich weiß, daß nicht nur ich
gesegnet worden bin, ich hoffe, daß ich durch Gottes Gnade ein Segen
sein konnte.“ – Unser Dank gilt in jedem Fall Herrn Gall. Es war für uns
und die Gemeinde in Guarolhos, da bin ich mir ganz sicher, ein Segen,
daß er die strapaziöse Reise auf sich genommen hat. Er kann uns
sicherlich noch viel über seine Eindrücke berichten!d eine neue Konfirmandengruppe anfangen, zu der
wir alle Jugendlichen ab dem zwölften Lebensjahr einladen. Am
Donnerstag, den 19. Februar wird an einem Abend für Eltern und
zukünftigen Konfirmanden der Ablauf des Unterrichts erläutert. Es wäre
schön, wenn bis dahin Interessierte das beiliegende Anmeldeformular
ausgefüllt an die Kirche zurückschicken könnten. Ich bin gespannt, ob wir
in diesem Jahr ebenfalls eine größere Gruppe zusammenbekommen. Bitte

Reichel has notified us that the formerly, unused church in Cabacu, part
of Guaruhlos, has now become a Daycare Centre

Our congregational member, Mr.
Gunter Gall, has recently paid a visit to the congregation near Sao Paulo
in Brazil, whom we have supported financially to a higher degree during
the last two years. For some time now, there was contact between the
former Pastor Milton Schwantes and our Pastor Eberhard Schwantes, who met
in Germany and remained in contact. Perhaps you still remember that Pastor
Milton Schwantes fell ill with a brain tumor, and since then he is unable
to work in the congregation. He recovers slowly from the effects of the
operation, but, as Mr. Gall reported, is almost blind and effected by the
medication he has to take. In the past year, Mr. and Mrs. Wienecke had the
opportunity, on a trip through Brazil, to meet him and the congregation.
This year, the stay of Mr. Gall was concentrated exclusively on the
congregation. Mr. Gall has been able to convince himself personally of the
fact that, under unimaginably difficult circumstances, great things are
being accomplished, also with our help. One problem with which this
congregation is confronted, are the children, who grow up without a
father. Mothers have more children than they can take care of. Now they
succeeded in founding a program, which helps mothers to take up jobs and
know that their children are in the care of the congregation. Some mothers
are away from home 14 hours daily. I found it interesting in Mr. Gall’s
report, that this problem connects us, in spite of the distance. Pastor
Reichel, too, is seeking support for this Nursery Project, which costs
approximately $ 40.00 Can. monthly. The congregation in Guarolhos attempts
to acquire the bordering lot to set up a nursery for children of mothers
who cannot pay anything monthly. – Mr. Gall also took part in a Baptism
Service in the area of Sao Jose dos Campos, where Pastor Roepke has
commenced his service in that Church in December. Pastor Roepke will work
closely together with Pastor Eichel. – Mr. Gall has personally handed over
our donation to Pastor Reichel, which was accepted with a big thank you
and best wishes for us. Mr. Gall summed up his visit as follows: “ My trip
to Brazil has made me humble, and I know that not just I was blessed, I
hope that, by God’s mercy, I could be a blessing.” – Our thanks, in any
case, go to Mr. Gall. It was for us and the congregation in Guarolhos, I
am quite sure, a blessing, that he has undertaken this strenuous journey.
He can surely report to us much more on his impressions!
