Summer camp is fast approaching and I urge you to submit your forms and payment by July 1st.

If you are considering going or sending your children, please let me know of your intentions.  I will be accepting campers till the start of camp as long as there is space available and I have enough counselors to properly care for your child.

Important Forms required: The registration form is required for everyone attending camp, including parents.  The bus form is required if you are taking the bus to/from camp.  Where payment for the above is required, please make a cheque payable to MLC.

Please sign the Multimedia Release Form, and attach with registration.  This form lets us know if you consent to having your picture or video posted on our website or through other media.  Failure to remit this form implies consent.

Bus ride to camp:

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Bruno and Trott Transit for their unbeatable pricing for the bus to/from camp this year.  The bus is a safe, fun, and convenient means of sending the kids to camp.  Without this special pricing we couldn’t even dream of offering this to parents.  Please arrive at the Church at 1pm, for a 1:30 DEPARTURE on SATURDAY July 21st.  The bus will arrive at Camp at approx. 7pm.  We will meet at the cul-de-sac on Superior Ave. (in front of the MLC daycare) south of Lakeshore.  We plan to return on Friday July 27th,  6:00pm at the place of departure.

In General at camp:

I would like to remind parents to refrain from sending their kids to camp with hand-held gaming devices, and encourage them to bring an active imagination!!

Don't forget to decorate your cabins in a CHRISTMAS IN JULY THEME theme and dress appropriately for our dress-up dinner.

Final remarks:

Please make sure your child has money for treats and dinner on the way up and back.  For those of you driving up, you are welcome to arrive anytime after 2:00 p.m., however must provide for your own dinner that evening. Lutherlyn camp is such a wonderful time of fellowship and Christian spirit (as many of you know).  Please keep us in your prayers for the week that we are at camp.

Yours very truly, Dan Sommerfeld  camp-director@martinluther.ca

A unique experience...

For many years the Martin Luther Church invites youth for a one-week-camp to the Golden Lake. The Camp wants to give children and youth in the age between 8 and 18 the opportunity to have a good time with others and to enjoy the beautiful landscape and activities around the lake, The counsellors are experienced youth leaders of the church, who take care of the needs of the campers and provide an interesting program with creative games and sports. Part of the program are bible-studies which combine biblical stories with outdoor activities. The campers sleep in cabins in groups of 10. Meals are cooked by the staff of the Camp.

Camp Lutherlyn is 150 acres of rolling land with meadows, forest and splendid beaches, located on beautiful Golden Lake, near Pembroke, Ontario. A variety of accommodations is available: - during the summer months, children make use of the roomy cabins, each sleeping 10 - 12 persons. -at other times of the year, accommodations are available in the Director's and Nurse's cabins. - The Four Seasons Lodge provides year round wheelchair accessible accommodation, with indoor washrooms and showers and four bedrooms, each having two upper and two lower bunks; it also includes a kitchen, dining area, and lounge and discussion facilities. -tent and trailer sites (without hook-ups) are available from mid-May to mid-October.

Schmeider Hall offers a spacious kitchen and dining hall with plenty of meeting space around the warmth of an open fireplace. Adjacent to Schmeider Hall is a worship shelter, providing a sheltered area for group activities or mealtime overflow.

The Rules of Camp Lutherlyn
(edited July 2006)

The Rules are meant for the common safety, enjoyment and enlightenment of every camper, camp participant and counsellor, regardless of age.  The rules of the camp will be enforced and amended in the Christian spirit and as necessary by the camp counsellors, under the direction of the Pastor and the Camp Director.

1.      All camp participants are to treat fellow campers and the surrounding environment in the Christian spirit of respect, compassion and understanding

2.      All campers are invited to participate in the planned group programme to the best of their ability. Venturing off camp property, or away from the area where activities are being undertaken is not permitted.

3.      Radios / walkmans / Gameboys / personal electronics – are permitted at camp for use during private time in the cabins, as long as their use doesn’t interfere with the camp schedule and the harmony of the other campers.

4.      Food / Snacks  - are permitted to campers.  All food must be kept in “Schmieder Hall”. Snacks are meant to be consumed after meals, and/or before bedtime.

5.      Smoking, use of illegal drugs, and alcoholic beverages  – is not permitted anywhere on Camp Grounds.  The administration of all Prescription drugs/medication required by campers is to be administered by the Camp Director, and or designate.

6.      There are Boys cabins, and there are Girls cabins. No camper is permitted in any cabin but her/his own, at any time.

7.      Nobody is allowed to leave the cabin during the night, other than for a bathroom break.  No urinating on Camp grounds, please use bathrooms or outhouse!

8.      Showers are restricted to before breakfast and/or evenings  prior to bedtime. The use of hot water during the day shall be coordinated with kitchen staff  to ensure that it does not interfere with the water requirements of the dishwasher.

9.      Wilful damage to property or behaviour deemed consistently detrimental to the group will not be tolerated.

10.  Playing with matches / lighters and flammable liquids is not permitted at any time on the grounds.

11.  No personal knives or similar items of any kind, considered capable of inflicting serious wounds (whether intentional or not).

12.  A number of guidelines for using the Camp property have been established by the Camp Lutherlyn property owners, and are already familiar to returning campers.  (i.e. not slamming doors, being careful with canoes, not running on the dock, etc.) New and returning campers will be reminded of these guidelines in due course.

Please co-operate – it is for your own safety!
